I’ve read quite a few reviews of this week’s ep of HIMYM, and I’m surprised by the number of people who weren’t fond of it. The main bones of contention: that Lily and Marshall are an annoying couple, or that their relationship is unrealistic. I have to say I don’t agree. I think it’s completely possible to be part of a happy, sappy relationship. You’d do anything for the other person, and not even a snowstorm could stand in your way.
In “Three Days of Snow”, a snowstorm tried its darndest to keep Marshmallow from meeting Lilypad at the airport, and although it delayed their reunion, it couldn’t keep them apart!
In case you need a refresher on “Three Days of Snow”, here’s the recap from CBS.com :
When a snowstorm hits the city before Lily returns from a teacher’s conference in Seattle, Marshall and Lily agree to forego they’re longstanding airport reunion ritual. But when they each start to worry that letting another ritual retire means that their relationship is losing its magic, Marshall enlists Robin’s help to get to the airport in time while Lily tries to pick-up a Seattle souvenir for Marshall, all in the middle of a blizzard. Meanwhile, Ted and Barney are meeting two women at MacLaren’s, so when Carl threatens to close up because of the storm, they offer to watch over the bar until the women show up. After having fun tending the bar, things get out of control when the girls arrive with their thirsty band-mates.
My favorite parts of this episode:
1) The gift of regional microbrews upon returning from a trip, with punny names like “Minne-cider”.
2) Another appearance from Ranjit!
3) Kokomo playing while Barney and Ted go all Cocktail on MacLaren’s.
4) The big marching band number that welcomed Lily home, a la Love Actually.
5) Barney’s “Party School Bingo”
What stood out most about this episode, in my eyes? It wasn’t all about providing the biggest laughs possible. It was focused on a well thought out and cleverly recounted story. Being able to easily make a shift from side splitting hilarity and endearing tales is what sets HIMYM apart from the pack.
What did you think of “Three Days of Snow”? And I’m curious to know, do you find Lily and Marshall adorable or annoying?
