A very pregnant Alyson Hannigan appeared on Ellen yesterday. In case you missed it, you can check out the clip here:
Now Ellen tried her darndest to get Alyson to reveal if the baby’s a boy or a girl, and her due date, but was unsuccessful. What did we learn? That she’s been craving ginger ale during her pregnancy, that she watches The Bachelor (and has roped hubby Alexis Denisof into watching as well), and how they’ve been creatively using props on the set of HIMYM to hide her belly. We did see a scene of an upcoming HIMYM episode in which we see her in full view. The excuse they’re using for the belly: Lily has just won a hot dog eating contest!
Barney Stinson’s mother finally has a face – and it’s none other than Frances Conroy, best known as Ruth Fisher, matriarch on Six Feet Under. I heard this casting news courtesy of TV Guide’s Matt Mitovich, and I’m quite pleased. I’ve been checking out the fan response to this announcement, and it seems a lot of people were hoping Megan Mullally would be Barney’s mother when the day finally came, seeing that she’s been the voice of Mrs. Stinson up to this point. Personally, I think Mullally looks way too young. And I like Conroy. She’s a fantastic actress, and I’ve missed seeing her on my TV. She’s set to air in Episode 15 of this season, entitled “The Stinsons”. What do you think of Frances Conroy as Mrs. Stinson? Photo Courtesy of TV Guide
The Writers’ Strike of 2008 may be a distant memory, but projects that some actors worked on are just starting to surface. Take Broken Lizard’s latest film, The Slammin Salmon, featuring How I Met Your Mother’s Cobie Smulders. New York Magazine caught up with Smulders at The Slammin Salmon premiere during the Slamdance Film Festival. She had this to share about her character, Tara:
Here’s a sneak peak at the flick:

I’ve read quite a few reviews of this week’s ep of HIMYM, and I’m surprised by the number of people who weren’t fond of it. The main bones of contention: that Lily and Marshall are an annoying couple, or that their relationship is unrealistic. I have to say I don’t agree. I think it’s completely possible to be part of a happy, sappy relationship. You’d do anything for the other person, and not even a snowstorm could stand in your way. In “Three Days of Snow”, a snowstorm tried its darndest to keep Marshmallow from meeting Lilypad at the airport, and although it delayed their reunion, it couldn’t keep them apart! In case you need a refresher on “Three Days of Snow”, here’s the recap from CBS.com :
My favorite parts of this episode: 1) The gift of regional microbrews upon returning from a trip, with punny names like “Minne-cider”. 2) Another appearance from Ranjit! 3) Kokomo playing while Barney and Ted go all Cocktail on MacLaren’s. 4) The big marching band number that welcomed Lily home, a la Love Actually. 5) Barney’s “Party School Bingo” What stood out most about this episode, in my eyes? It wasn’t all about providing the biggest laughs possible. It was focused on a well thought out and cleverly recounted story. Being able to easily make a shift from side splitting hilarity and endearing tales is what sets HIMYM apart from the pack. What did you think of “Three Days of Snow”? And I’m curious to know, do you find Lily and Marshall adorable or annoying?
Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello reports that the woman once known as Donna Pinciotti will be
Ausiello speculates as to whether Prepon’s character will be the elusive “Mother”. I’m not so sure. From the character description, I don’t see her capturing the title of Mrs. Ted Mosby. Do you think this new character will eventually become the “Mother”? Let me know in the comments below!
I saw this Youtube video posted by a few of my Twitter peeps, and I just had to share it with all of you. It’s a How I Met Your Mother/Dr Horrible crossover. Created by MichyGeary, it combines Barney Stinson’s conversion from hippie do-gooder to capitalist man-ho, and Billy’s transformation into Dr. Horrible after being accepted to the Evil League of Evil!
This has to be one of my favorite fan vids of the ones that have been shared with me so far. Do you have a fave? Post it in the comments below, and I’ll feature it here!
I’m going to get this out of the way first – I do not like 99% of reality TV. I’ve never watched Survivor, I have no clue what The Hills is all about, and I don’t know anything about the Kardashians. When I heard about the latest round of stunt casting on How I Met Your Mother for this week’s episode, “Benefits”, I admit, I rolled my eyes. Once the episode had ended, I was elated that reality “stars” Kim Kardashian, Spencer Pratt, Heidi Montag and Kendra Wilkinson were relegated to the talking cover of Marshall’s tabloid magazine. Here are my picks for episode highlights: I have to say, Barney pining for Robin has added a new dimension to the show and his character, and I approve of both. Also, did anyone else notice Alyson Hannigan’s face has started to fill out? How long before Cobie Smulders starts to show some physical changes? If you’d like a refresher on “Benefits”, here’s the full episode recap from CBS.com :

The cast of HIMYM celebrated the arrival of 2009 – with more dough! They were recently rewarded with a salary increase following some lucrative syndication deals, and maintaining their performance in the ratings. According to The Hollywood Reporter, each cast member is now earning between 90k and 120k per episode, retroactive to the beginning of Season 4 – that’s nearly 2 to 3 times what they were making. It also extends their contracts to eight years from the original seven. This is still lower than the salaries of other ensemble comedies, like The Office. Given the economic challenges at this time, it’s good that 20th Century Fox TV decided to recognize HIMYM, and reward one of its most profitable shows.
Because this is the time of year for Top 10 lists, I thought it’d be only appropriate to end the year with one as well! Please note, these are not in any particular order. And the list includes suggestions that I received via Facebook and Twitter! Top 10 Moments on HIMYM in 2008 1 ) Naked Man! 2 ) Barney’s Holiday Tunes (from Bill via Facebook). 3 ) Marshall singing “Let’s Go to the Mall” karaoke-style at The Hoser Bar. 4 ) Robin and Barney hooking up. 5 ) The “Sandcastles in the Sand” video, complete with cameos by Alan Thicke and Tiffany. 6 ) When Robin is drunk and playing hockey in the apartment, Ted breaks up the girl fight, and Barney punches the wall (from @callmelydia via Twitter) 7 ) When Robin discovers the floors in Marshall and Lily’s new apartment are sloped. (Why was this so funny? Because when I moved into my apartment a few years ago, I MADE THE SAME DISCOVERY!) 8 ) Not A Father’s Day. 9 ) The Bracket. 10 ) Barney’s “Rebound Bro”, Randy, played brilliantly by SNL’s Will Forte. What were your favorite HIMYM moments in 2008? Be sure to share them in the comments below. Thanks for reading in 2008, and have a legendary 2009! Photo courtesy of CBS.com
It seems that as each day goes by, more and more of HIMYM’s famous lines are everywhere, in particular, what I refer to as “Stinsonisms”. What exactly is a “Stinsonism”? A word, phrase or concept created, used or made famous by Barney Stinson. For example, the word “Legendary”, the phrase “Suit up”, or the “Bro Code” would all be “Stinsonisms”. I first noticed it at a Starbucks, when their chalkboard said they were looking for “Legendary baristas”. Then the phrase “Wait for it” was used in 2 TV commercials over the past couple of months. And so many people are playing “Have you met …” including me and my friends. Then I used the phrase “Santa suit up” over the holidays. What’s your favorite “Stinsonism”? Do you find that they are creeping into your life, too? Photo courtesy of TVGuide.com |
